Abstract

The experimental work was carried out on handmade portable economic solar cooker system. The morning time from 09.30 hrs to 13.00 hrs has been utilized to have lunch food prepared using solar energy heat and temperature in the packed solar cooker. Different dishes were tried out using the solar power, starting with normal boiled fried rice, eggplant rice, pulse rice, potato rice, spicy boiled fish, boiled eggs, chicken rice etc. The model set up was prepared by using scrap empty cartoon box and thermocol for the purpose of insulation. Black paint was used inside oven and outside Tiffin box to absorb radiation heat energy from sunlight to boil food and to get desired natural taste. This method has been tried from the month of April to May in Mumbai region of India. The morning average temperature range observed from 30°C to 35°C. The temperature was measured by the digital thermocouple. Inside the Tiffin box, thermocouple is kept on the food to note down the temperature development over an interval of time based on the rate of temperature progression. The temperature has been noted down at an interval of ten minutes. It was noted that the overall temperature developed had been up to 100°C. Most of the uncooked food gets boiled up within the time period of three to four hours and with natural flavor.
