Abstract

The E. alletteratus is one of the most desirable fish for consumption in general, because of its high nutritional value, Moreover, is one of the richest fish in protein. Severe infection with pathogens, especially parasites, can cause various functional disorders and this affects the quality of its meat.

The A. simplex is one of the most clinically important parasites in human health, the disease in humans manifests nonspecifically, however the consumption of raw or semi-raw seafood is crucial information to link the presence of the parasite with the disease.

Therefore, the identification of parasites that parasitize on E. alletteratus is of great importance, as we found (during current research) the parasite Anisakis simplex (Rud, 1809) on the outer surface of the digestive system of one of them.

The present study was considered as the first report of anisakid larvae from E. alletteratus in the Syrian water.
